Vic felt the snout prod him forward again. It was no longer quite as dark in the cave tunnel as it had been. The point of light in the distance had become brighter and nearer.

Just a little behind to his left, Vic could hear Bobby’s heavy breathing, possibly because of the effort of walking quickly in the dark but more likely due to the fear of not knowing what was happening to them. Vic felt it himself, but tried to control his panic in case he might find some way to act quickly when given a chance. The likelihood of that happening was more a joke than a possibility.

Finally they arrived at the source of the light, and the cavern walls widened into a large chamber with an opening above them where light came through. From a different cave entrance, Vic guessed. It wasn’t really as bright as it had seemed, just that it would have been pitch black here without it. The storm outside was bound to still be raging.

Several creatures goaded Vic and Bobby forward toward the point of light ahead. Vic wondered what they‘d find there. A place of sacrifices, with themselves as the lambs?

When they entered the brightly lit chamber space, the boys looked around, first up for the source of the light. If that was really another cave opening, then it had to be considered as their top escape option.
