Schizogenesis [chapter 10]
Ed had inserted the CD into his pickup’s player and begun listening to the bizarre things some strange man had to say.
“My name is Barnard Kirland and I’m a research scientist. The machine you see before you should be regarded as dangerous to those who don’t understand it.
“My experiments using various radioactive isotopes are restricted-access information for reasons of national security, but they are related to a process I name schizogenesis.
“My assistant and I began our work thirteen years ago. By accident, we discovered an unusual method to dislodge particles at a subatomic level.
“After tests on mice, we move to mammals, such as dogs and chimpanzees. Using methodologies developed by the Schizogenesis Project, our test subjects began to exhibit unusual behavior. One of these, a monkey named Eugene, disappeared from his cage while surrounded by student volunteers who were feeding the animals.
“Eugene was finally located near the top of a tree outside our facility. He was returned to his cage and I examined him. I turned my back, then was surprised to see him in a different cage with a monkey named Helen. Sadly, I decided that all the experimental animals had to be destroyed.
