While helping Cindy and Grace with the larger than usual lunch crowd, Dora spoke with some of the townspeople. Most were sympathetic, and she gave vague answers to their questions. When most had finished their meals and left, Dora flipped the front door sign to CLOSED and started back to her office. She noticed Tina for the first time sitting at the counter, a cup of coffee in front of her.

“Hi, Tina.”

“Hi, Dora. I hoped I’d be able to talk to you, but you’ve been busy. I can’t just sit at home and do nothing.”

“Did you call the Sheriff?”

“He was no help.” Tina’s eyes were red-rimmed.

“Let’s go into my office.” Dora led the way back. They were about to sit down when Cindy came in.

“I’m sorry, Dora, but there’s someone out front who claims she just has to see you. She said it’s got something to do with Ed.’

‘Okay, Cindy. Send her in.“ Cindy left to get her. They waited, then an Asian woman walked through the door accompanied by a young teen-aged girl. Dora noted the white nurse’s uniform the woman wore.

“Hello, I’m Dora. Is Ed okay?”

“Actually, I don’t know him,” the woman said, “but I have something I need to tell you.”
