Schizogenesis [chapter 21]
Blender flashed his badge and stepped past the man who identified himself as the bank president. To establish control, Blender spoke quickly before being asked questions he didn’t want to answer.
“So who called in the 9–1–1?”
“We don’t know, but it was a woman’s voice.”
Blender nodded. “So how did this perp gain access?”
The man sighed.
“We haven’t figured that out yet. No alarms were activated, and there’s no sign of forced entry. The vault hasn’t been tampered with. It’s timer-controlled, and the override code wasn’t entered, but there’s a large sum missing, estimated to exceed a million dollars. Security is preparing the camera tape for you.”
“An inside job?”
The man shrugged.
Blender was certain no bank employees were involved. It had to be Ed Haswell. Only he could walk through walls. Still, it was strange, it seemed so out of character, but it was the only explanation that fit.
The Top Cop here, he was becoming furious. Yet another screw-up in a succession of unnecessary mistakes. Plus, Minton hadn’t shown up at the Trask house. If Haswell would resort to a bank heist, would he go so far as murder?
