Schizogenesis [chapter 35]
Blender sat directly behind Hadley, watching him maneuver the big Caddy. Behind the wheel, he was a force to reckon with. Too bad that talent didn’t extend to the other qualities necessary to make a top agent.
Blender leaned forward.
“Hadley, when we get there, stay with the car in case we need to move quickly.”
Jackson, riding shotgun, turned his head to look back.
“Boss, how are we carrying the machine, up top?”
“No, the techs returned Trask’s pickup when they were done with it. We’ll requisition it.”
Blender grinned. He was in high spirits since leaving the Johnson’s. His goal was now within reach. Its possession would be the salvation of his career.
The other agents seemed to sense the sea change, also. Blender was satisfied that their sidelong glances had stopped.
They were nearing the Trask’s site of the helicopter bash and the double flight from justice.
“Jackson, you’re front door. Stevens, take the side. At home with two kids, I doubt they’ll try anything stupid this time.”
Hadley cut the lights and smoothly turned into the drive. As he tapped the accelerator the big car surged forward. Just before the garage, he brought the car to a sudden stop. Blender…
