Filled with wonder and terror, Melanie and Gavin backed away but stood outside the room staring at the black hole in the wall. The opening shifted back and forth, near-black then glowing red like a roaring fireplace ready to blast its way from the wall into the room.

Whatever was coming in was well on its way.

The grunts and snorts from somewhere inside the turnings of the womblike flesh were already louder than when they’d discovered this unfolding freakishness. The tunnel was about three feet wide from side to side, and Melanie could see that it was quickly enlarging. It was like a sinkhole in the wall.

What would be falling through from the other side?

Without speech, they backed away from the crazy scene before them. Melanie had never been a big believer in the supernatural, and she suspected that neither had Gavin. This, however, could be a rupture in the actual realities that normally separated the two planes or dimensions or whatever.
