Owen was mildly surprised to learn online that ammunition, called .45 Long Colt, was indeed available for the gun, but he was stunned to view the amount of money that a similar gun had brought at auction. One site claimed that a man had received nearly a quarter million dollars for what was called a Peacemaker.

Even now that he had cleaned his new purchase, he probably couldn’t get anything like that amount for it. Most likely, the auctioned revolver had been one of the early originals in prime condition with a low serial number, if serial numbers even existed then. However, his still might be worth real money. He’d give that idea some thought.

He didn’t know if there were any experienced and reputable dealers in or around Crothersly. It might be worth a day trip to a larger city to find out more.

Owen stared down at the pistol on the table. It was like a different gun, a beauty in its own way. It really should be worth something. While cleaning it, he could feel the history that the weapon must have enjoyed. Had it ever killed someone? What kind of man had possessed it? How had it come to be a part of the Williams estate?
